When you want to deeply connect with another human being, looking into their eyes for extended periods creates alignment and synergy with their energy. Feelings of love and appreciation develop and you may even experience deep upwelling of joy.
Some participants also experience the process of facing themselves or thoughts and feelings of personal analysis and reflection which can be confrontational, however in this sacred space that introspection is given love and light by your opposite partner and so breaks down your fears of looking deeply into your own fabric.
The New York Times published this article 'To Fall in Love With Anyone, Do This' describing an experiment in which two people are made to stare into each other’s eyes for four uninterrupted minutes.
Inspired by the article, YouTube’s SoulPancake recently gathered six couples to test out the theory. Among the couples they recruited was a pair of strangers, a duo on their fourth date and a married couple who’d been together for 55 years.
I've tried this to amazing effect and intimacy and most importantly a deeper understanding and empathy for my partner. Years later it's one of the most memorable actions I believe we can take to connect and hold dear our primary relationships.
So get practicing...;-)
